Mini-Tutorial: Pear deck

Active Learning — Pear Deck

I discovered Pear Deck this year during distant learning with my students as another way to check-in or make lesson more interactive. It is also the first time I truly hear the terms asynchronous learning and synchronous learning which makes sense to many things we do in the classroom, group work vs independent work.

What pear deck actually is is an add on for Google Slide that when I send use the generated code you give the slides become interactive. You can use this add on for a quick check-in on how they are feeling, you can use to add your lesson and check for understanding as group. It's a regular slide with an added interactive piece.

I had unlimited access to use pear for distant learning but the basic versions is still free and I made a quick view for in two parts because screen casity only lets me on 5 minutes and I went over (oops!) on what you can do with it and how it looks (Part 1 & part 2 ) . It can be intimidating at first but I think we are learn best when we "play" around with something to see it true potential. If you do like and what to give it a try and have a guinea pig student, I am your person! Or maybe check other ones I made I'd be happy to share. If you master google slides, I think it's a cool upgrade.

  2. Julie, thank you for sharing on peardeck! I installed the add on this spring, and poked around, but did not really have an opportunity to use it. Very cool utility.
